We are looking for software developers with an innovative drive and the motivation to design, develop, implement and maintain end user applications, archive and infrastructure software to strengthen our team. Successful candidates will have a university degree in Computer Science or related subject and solid knowledge and practical experience in Java programming and XML technologies. Candidates should be comfortable working in a research environment, linguistics in particular, are proactive and conscientious about their own work and that of others.

The challenges

The development team of the MPI is involved in a number of advanced national and international research infrastructure (www.clarin.eu) and language oriented projects (www.mpi.nl/dobes). In these projects end user applications, archive and infrastructure software are being developed to serve the needs of our end users and international partners. The challenges cover a variety of topics such as creating a joint domain for metadata, persistent identifiers, registries and semantic interoperability.  In most of these projects the development team of the MPI is a primary partner in realizing the technical infrastructure to serve linguistic and humanities needs.

The team

The development team at MPI is a dedicated team of about 10 developers working on open source Java based application and services technologies. The team has got a high reputation world-wide based on its Language Archive Technology suite (www.mpi.nl/lat). It provides expertise and implementations to the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics as well as international collaborations to support and advance the linguistics and humanities programs. The team actively encourages young professionals to participate in these efforts.

The offer

Contracts can be offered for two years which can be extended depending of the success of the project. Nijmegen is a dynamic town in the Netherlands with one of the largest Dutch universities and an active cultural scene.
